Finally had a chance to drink Andreas Gsellmann’s much-praised Traminer 2013. Fourteen days of skin fermentation and 16 months on the yeast in used wooden 500-liter barrels, created a superbly exciting wine that provides a whole new take on wine from an aromatic grape variety. On the nose floral, honey and tropical fruit notes dominate, but on the palate there is additional freshness.
Gault Millau and Falstaff’s awards for this wine are fully deserved. I’ll treasure my remaining bottles in the basement.

Had a great conversation with vintner Andreas Gsellmann @andreasgsellmanngols in Gols today. Just like Pittnauer @pittnauer_winery and Preisinger @c__laus (see earlier posts) and six others, he is part of the successful Pannobile group that makes exciting, (mostly) biodynamic wines. This one struck me in particular. The Finum is a wine made following the solera process using different grapes varieties from different years. Hence AG calls it sherry style, but it is non-fortified. It is an amazing aperitif full of exotic and nutty flavors. The toasted coconut stood out. Very special. Just 500 0,5-liter bottles per year come onto the market...
